Sottano Seleccion del Enologo Malbec
Well-crafted organic Malbec from Mendoza.
Coming from the heart of Mendoza, Argentina, Sottano Selección del Enólogo Malbec gives us classic Malbec whilst also being organic. This family estate in the Pedriel district of Mendoza is run and owned by the Sottano brothers Diego, Pablo and Mauricio. It sits at 1000m altitude in the foothills of the Andes, benefiting from the warm days and cold nights typical of the region, producing well balanced and perfectly ripe grapes, both red and white.
Sottano Selección del Enólogo Malbec is notable for its deep ruby colour, which hints at the richness within. On the nose, it presents a complex bouquet of dark fruits, primarily blackberries and plums, accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate and spice (clove, white pepper). There is also a faint herbal quality that adds depth to the aromatic profile, reflecting the organic farming practices employed in the vineyard.
In terms of flavour, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a smooth texture that is typical of well-crafted Malbecs. The palate reveals red and black fruit flavours, complemented by a touch of vanilla, a result of the 18 months spent in French oak barrels. There’s a meaty denseness to the wine, but ultimately it’s all about the ripe tannins that are met with balanced acidity, contributing to a deliciously lengthy finish.
