Sharpham Figgie Daniel Col Fondo

Fruit driven, ancestral-method fizz.

Made in the Col Fondo style (effectively the same as Pet-Nat), this cloudy, tangy, nutty fizz is made by the brilliant Sandridge Barton winery in Devon. We can see a few of these being enjoyed this summer.

The Sharpham Estate, home of the Sandbridge Barton winery, is located along the banks of the River Dart in Devon. They have been making wine in the Dart Valley for over 40 years and harvest up to 60 tonnes of grapes each year. The grapes which make the 'Figgie Daniel' are sourced from a vineyard planted in 2008 with 24 acres now under vine. Other varietals planted include Pinor Noir, Chardonnay, Madeline Angevine and Bacchus.  All of the winemaking, including the bottling, takes place on-site and then matured in various vessels including oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.

In May 2021 they planted a new vineyard on a raised limestone bed  (one of only a few in the UK) with Burgundian and Champagne clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, which thrive in limestone soils. This will most likely be ready for harvest in 2024 and we can't wait to try them.

Sharpham Wine

Sharpham Wine

Sharpham have been carefully nurturing and crafting English wines from their beautiful Dart Valley vineyards for the past 40 years. 2022 has seen them find a new home at the Sandridge Barton Estate, just 3km downriver from their original site, which also houses a brand new winery, tasting room and restaurant.

With breath-taking views across the river and beyond, the site lies in a south-facing bowl that gently slopes towards the Dart, benefitting from the warming influence of the tidal river as well as the Devon sunshine.

Growing varieties such as Madeleine Angevine, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Bacchus, the unique climate at Sandridge Barton provides a long growing season, preserving the fresh aromas and flavours of the grapes.

Celebrating English Wine

Celebrating English Wine

It’s no secret that English Sparkling Wines can stand up to – and often beat – the likes of Champagne. In fact, some of the big Champagne houses are now buying plots of land in the UK for their own vineyards, which is certainly saying something! English still wines are now also gaining a reputation for their high quality – and rightfully so – being full of energy and vibrant acidity.

We’ve spent a lot of time visiting vineyards and winemakers around the country, getting excited about the wines they’re producing. So much so, that our range of English and Welsh wines at Tivoli Wines has grown from a handful of bottles to well over 100.

Just because it’s English, that doesn’t mean we’ll add it to our range. We search for wines that demonstrate quality, uniqueness and value for money.
