Chateau Saransot-Dupré Listrac-Médoc Bordeaux Blanc
Oaked Bordeaux white from the historic Listrac-Médoc.
From Chateau Saransot-Dupré, an estate that dates back to 1735, comes this dry white from AOC Bordeaux. The clay-limestone soils of this area are well-known for producing great white wines, and this is no exception. It's a blend of (mostly) Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with a little splash of Muscadelle, all from very old vines.
The Sauvignon brings its celebrated aromatic qualities and aromas of lemon, grapefruit and lime blossom. The Sémillon meanwhile gives richness in the mouth, which Sauvignon can sometimes lack, and adds a glorious length to the palate. Eighty percent of the wine has been aged in oak which adds texture, complexity and ageability to the wine.
Yellow straw colour with emerald glints, the freshness hits you first on the palate, then the wine fully fills the mouth. Finally the toasty notes from oak influence come through, accompanied by a long finish. Its relatively low acidity makes it easy to drink and may even sway the non-white-wine-drinker.
While Saransot-Dupré Brodeaux Blanc is often enjoyed as an aperitif, it does also go very well with fish dishes, seafood and sheep/goats’ cheeses.
