A wonderfully fresh palate full of citrus, Goulart's Reserva Cava has a strong character from its extended ageing on lees. Yellow in colour with golden reflections, this is bright with fine bubbles. Rich in apple, pear and pineapple aromas, it has delightful toasty notes and a silky mouthfeel.

The wine is a blend of the traditional Cava grapes; Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada. Having been made in the traditonal sparkling method, it combines a lovely accessible fruitiness and a brilliant structured quality that makes it enjoyable now, though could also be laid down to age. The Roger Goulart winery has been established for over 140 years, and that expertise and commitment to wine shines through here.

Cava

Cava

Cava is a Spanish traditional-method sparkling wine of Denominación de Origen (DO) status, which can be white (blanco) or rosé (rosado). Whilst Cava is only a classification for a style of wine rather than a region, the vast majority is produced within Penedès, Catalunya.

There are three primary grapes of Cava; Macabeo (aka Viura, Macabeu) – adds floral notes and stone fruit flavours; Xarel-lo – an aromatic variety that adds body; Parellada – adds acidity with green apple and citrus flavours. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are also permitted, as well as Trepat, Garnacha and Monastrell for the rosés.

There are three quality levels; Cava (standard) – minimum of 9 months ageing on the lees (identical to most French Crémant-style wines); Reserva – minimum of 15 months ageing (the same requirement as non-vintage Champagne); Gran Reserva – minimum of 30 months ageing and vintage dated (similar to Vintage Champagne).
