Quinta do Piloto Moscatel de Setubal Superior 10 Year Old

An intense and aged sweet wine. Beautifully balanced acidity with fruity qualities.

Quinta do Piloto is owned by the Cardoso family; a long-respected name in Moscatel production. The Cardoso family, who are now run by 4th generation Filipe Cardoso, approach Moscatel from a traditionalist method. Quinta do Piloto is the founding estate of the Sivipa group, and their biggest contributor. They supply grapes to Sivipa, but also make their own wines. These estate wines allow a finer expression of the terroir and grape varieties. The Quinta do Piloto Moscatel de Setúbal Superior is a clear example of this. Refined, decadent and complex.

The majority of the estate's vineyards are located on the flat, sandy soils of the peninsula, to the East of Palmela. Here they have some fantastic (and some very old) Castelao. They also have some higher altitude sites, on north-facing limestone soils, at the eastern end of the Sierra da Arrabida, surrounding Quinta do PIloto. This is where you'll find the Muscat vines that make their Moscatel de Setubal and Moscatel Roxo.

Intense aromas of orange blossom, citrus, bitter orange marmalade, raisins, figs and nuts. The palate is full bodied and has an excellent balance between sweetness and acidity. The Moscatel de Setubal Superior is 100% Moscatel de Alexandria, aged for around 10 years, but released when ‘ready’. The time spent ageing in oak allows for integration and balance of acidity and sweetness, and for the development of secondary complexity.
