Heaphy Pinot Gris

Off-dry Nelson Pinot Gris full of stone fruits and frangipane.

Heaphy Vineyard is a small, sustainable winery in the north-west corner of New Zealand’s South Island, a region named Nelson. The winery sits high above Tasman Bay on the Moutere Hills, where 10 hectares of long-established vineyards are defined by Moutere’s signature clay soils. First planted in 1973, Heaphy’s vines are amongst the very oldest in New Zealand.

From a single vineyard, grapes are hand-picked when at full ripeness then gently pressed and cold settled in stainless steel tanks. The pressing juices are separated into free run and pressings, this allows for better integration for the future wine. The two juices are then racked together for fermentation in stainless steel tanks, where they naturally achieve 4.5g per litre of residual sugar.

Pinot Gris thrives in the cooler-climate of Nelson. The longer growing season coaxes out sweet pear and frangipane notes, alongside a wonderfully balanced texture of juicy peach and apricot on the palate.

Pair with salads, soft cheeses or fragrant Thai dishes.
