Esk Valley Artisinal Gamay
Light and refreshing Gamay with a hint of oak spice.
This is lighter styled red wine, showcasing brambly red fruit and spice notes. Red currants, raspberries, blackberry leaf and dried herbs with a hint of wood spice make this a delicious and satisfying red wine.
The Artisanal Collection is a new range of fine wines with winemaker Gordon Russell’s artistry and vision on full display, yielding soulful wines that express Esk Valley’s character and Hawkes Bay home. In the Collection, classic Hawkes Bay wine styles are given the Esk Valley and Gordon Russell treatment.
Grown on a stony river terrace formed by the Ngaruroro River, this is a warm site with cool night time temperatures, ideal for growing an earlier ripening varieties such as Gamay. They were fermented in a single concrete fermenter with wild yeasts and the inclusion of 50% whole clusters. Hand plunging was employed in the pursuit of a light and fragrant wine. After a brief period of maceration, the wine was pressed to 500 and 600 litre French oak barrels where it aged on lees for nine months.
