El Grano Carmenere
Carmenere with character. Full, fruit-forward, peppery and leafy.
El Grano Caremere was created by Loire Valley winemaker Denis Duveau. Having sold his property in 1991, Domaine des Roches Neuves, he then went on to work as a consultant Oenologist in France, but also in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
In 2002 he decided to make terroir-driven wines in Chile. The grape he chose to express the terroir of the Curico Calley was Carmenere, formerly a Bordeaux speciality, but which had disappeared after the invasion of phylloxera. In 2006, his son Grégoire moved to Chile and joined his father’s company and, together, they operate the 45 hectares of vines.
El Grano Carmenere is made from grapes grown at 450m altitude. The vines are ploughed, no weedkillers are required, and because of the exceptional climate, no chemicals are needed either.
All winemaking takes place in stainless steel, with no use of oak. This ensures a wine with real character and sense of place. The nose is filled with dark fruits and expresses greenery in abundance: green bean, berries, and mint. There is a satisfying savoury bitterness in the mouth, with a spicy but smooth finish.
