Domaine Gaëlle et Jerome Meunier Bourgogne Cote d'Or Chardonnay

Elegant Burgundian Chardonnay that punches above its weight.

Gaëlle and Jérôme Meunier's white wines are amazing wines in terms of quality to price. There is some definite high class burgundy cru like refinement. There is a great fruit intensity, with hints of orange zest adding freshness and vibrancy. There is a hint of toasty oak, but discreet and very much in balance. Overall, this is a quite exceptional wine and one to stock up on for drinking over the next 3-4 years.

Gaëlle and Jérôme Meunier are based in the village of Barizey, 5 miles from Mercurey. They also have parcels of vines on the Côte d’Or including some excellent parcels in Puligny-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Champ Gain. The wines are rich and easy going in style with great balance and depth of fruit.

This chardonnay offers a beautifully classic profile. One which could be enjoyed by yourself or with friends, with or without food. Elegant, integrated and purposeful. This is a great chardonnay for any lover of burgundy whites or someone looking for something that combines quality and great value.

Could be paired with any classic white wine pairing: chicken, seafood and salads. ultimately this is a wine to be enjoyed!

The Grape - Chardonnay

The Grape - Chardonnay

The world's most planted white grape variety, Chardonnay is prized for its ability to produce outstanding-quality wines in cool, moderate and warm climates. It is most often used as a single variety in still wines but is equally successful when used in sparkling.

The flavours of Chardonnay are many and varied; they're very much affected by where the grapes are grown, the winemaking process and maturation.

In cool-climates, such as northern France and England, you would expect flavours of orchard fruits like apples and pears, citrus and wet stones. However, in warm-climates (California, Australia) you'd get peachy flavours, tropical fruits, and sometimes even banana.

It is common to taste other flavours in Chardonnay, for instance fermenting or ageing in oak gives the wine flavours of vanilla, smoke and toast; the process of malolactic conversion can add creamy, buttery flavours; lees ageing adds body as well as biscuit notes.
