Cuilleron Syrah Les Vignes d'à Côté

Vibrant and expressive Syrah, packed with fruit and a little black pepper.

A star of the Northern Rhône, Yves Cuilleron took over the reins as the fourth generation vigneron in 1987. He is based in Chavanay, just south of Condrieu and has built up a mighty reputation in recent years. His signature style being lingering rich white wines and big rich mineral reds.

He’s not certified organic or biodynamic but dabbles in both. He has a simple philosophy: “Grow the best possible grapes.”

His 'regional' wines labelled Les Vignes d'à Côte are from vines bordering the named appellation areas and offer all the qualities at great value. While the white wines of Cuilleron have garnered most of the press coverage, the reds have tended to fly under the radar. Hidden gems, if you will.

Cuilleron Syrah has been matured for 7 months in a combination of barrels (50%) and vats (50%), before blending and bottling. It has aromas of juicy red and black fruits with delicate spices and herbaceous notes. The palate is big, with plush fruit - raspberries, cherries, blackberries - cracked pepper, vibrant acidity and silky tannins. It’s a lovely expression of a cooler climate Syrah with a long mineral driven finish.
