Cuilleron Condrieu Petite Cote
A rich floral bouquet and luscious ripe apricots.
Yves Cuilleron is one of the leading producers in the Northern Rhone and has played a pivotal role in the development of the Condrieu appellation.
While the Cuilleron family had been vignerons for three generations Yves came late to wine. His first career was as a mechanic but, following his compulsory Military service in Alsace, he then got interested in wine. He followed up with wine studies at the Viticole de Macon and returned to the Northern Rhone to take over his uncle’s estate in 1987. Since then he has continually expanded by purchasing vineyards in most of the Northern Rhone appellations.
The Condrieu La Petite Côte is 100% Viognier sourced from vines located in the centre of the appellation, grown mostly on terraces. Viticulture is environmentally friendly with natural grasses planted to fight against erosion. No insecticides are used to preserve biodiversity and what fertiliser is used is organic.
After fermentation the wine spends 9 months in barriques and foudre, on lees and with regular bâtonnage. On the nose La Petit Côte offers aromas of apricot, quince and peach alongside white blossom, rose and honey. The palate is fresh with beautiful spicy power and a luxurious finish.
