Carlos Raposo Impecavel Touriga Nacional

Fresh, fruit focussed, unadulterated Touriga Nacional.

Based in the Dão, Carlos Raposo is a rising star amongst Portuguese winemakers. He owns no vineyards but instead scours the regions vines, buying grapes in small quantities – a few rows here, a few there – from several growers in the cooler Serra da Estrela subregion.

The son of a family that grows cork trees, Carlos Raposo set out for France to learn the craft of winemaking. Having studied in Bordeaux and Dijon, he eventually made his way back to Portugal (via Spain, California, and Australia). Carlos made his way from assistant up to head winemaker at Niepoort before striking out on his own in the Dão. For his solo project, World Wide Wines, he sources old-vine, organic and biodynamically grown grapes from around the Dão region.

Impecável (meaning ‘impeccable’) is an extremely pure expression of Touriga Nacional. Made without any oak influence, it's both juicy and fruity, with dried herbs and violets. It manages to achieve a mouth-watering freshness that you don’t often see in Portuguese reds, melding beautifully with silky tannins and a little grip on the finish. It really is impeccable.
