Borgo Paglianetto Petrara Verdicchio di Matelica
Verdicchio di Matelica is all about the saline minerality.
Borgo Paglianetto is situated in the central area of the Marche region, with vineyards that span the valley between Fabriano and Camerino. The wines come from the production area of Verdicchio di Matelica. This region is a short distance from the Adriatic Sea and dredged in the history of its vine growing.
Borgo Paglianetto Petrara is produced from Verdicchio vines averaging 30 years old. The vineyards are primarily south facing on clay-limestone soils, experiencing greater exposure to the sun.
Grapes are harvested marginally later and riper than a lot of the vineyards they farm, so the wine has a bit more colour and weight to the palate, still with that mineral quality you’d expect from Verdicchio.
Aged in stainless steel tanks on the lees for 6 months, the wine is lively with those trademark almond notes. Citrus, green apples and delicate white flowers characterise Petrara, alongside salty acidity and reverberating mineral finish.
