Alma das Donas Almanova Mencia
Cherry red Mencia from an iconic Spanish wine region.
The Alma Das Donas vineyards are located on the steep slopes of Ribeira Sacra’s River Sil. They have just over three hectares of their own vines, grown on granite and slate, and source fruit from other trusted growers in the region too.
This Mencia comes from their 50 year old vines at 330m altitude. The grapes can only be hand-harvested thanks to the devilishly steep slopes, and once transported back to the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel to maintain the aromatic quality of the wine.
Well-rounded, visually clean and brilliant. This is bursting with bright red fruit - cranberries and red cherries - framed by fine, soft tannins. There’s a slight savoury edge that adds to its complexity, though it’s all about the refreshing acidity on the finish.
