Val de Loire - Beyond The Classics - 6th August 2026
There's far more to the Loire Valley than Sancerre and Sauvignon Blanc
There is far more to the Loire Valley than Sancerre and Sauvignon Blanc. One of France’s most diverse and quietly compelling wine regions, the Loire is home to a wealth of lesser-known appellations, grape varieties and styles waiting to be discovered.
This tasting will take us beyond the familiar names and into some of the region’s more characterful corners. Along the way, we’ll explore grapes such as Melon de Bourgogne, best known for Muscadet but capable of far greater depth and complexity than it is often credited with; Pineau d’Aunis, a pale, peppery red variety prized for its bright aromatics; and Grolleau, once overlooked but now increasingly celebrated for its juicy, vibrant reds and rosés.
We’ll also shine a light on some lesser-known appellations such as Coteaux de l’Aubance, Jasnières, Chenonceaux, Savennières, Côte Roannaise or perhaps the Côtes du Forez. These regions often produce wines that are approachable, expressive and full of personality, offering fascinating alternatives to the Loire’s more famous styles.
Perfect for anyone keen to look a little deeper, this tasting is a chance to discover a more unexpected side of one of France’s most rewarding wine regions.
We make a seating plan for events that are held in The Wine Library. We have both high and low seating options, some more comfy than others, so please inform us if you have any special requirements. Likewise, do tell us if you wish to be sat with someone who has booked separately, we often just have to guess!
Tickets to our tastings are non-refundable so please double-check your diary prior to booking. If you can no longer attend, do get in touch as we often keep a cancellations list for those who missed out on tickets. Alternatively, feel free to pass them to friends or family – we only need the name of the person who booked for entry on the night.
