Oenorama - Wines of Greece - 23rd October
From Macedonia’s mountains to Santorini’s volcanic soils.
Join us for a journey through one of Europe’s most exciting and distinctive wine countries as we explore wines from across Greece.
From the cool, mountainous vineyards of Macedonia in the north to the sun-baked, volcanic soils of Santorini in the Aegean, this tasting will showcase just how diverse Greek wine can be. Along the way, we’ll discover a mix of familiar names and lesser-known regions, with plenty of indigenous grape varieties that rarely make it beyond Greece’s borders.
Expect elegant, savoury reds from northern Greece, aromatic and textured whites, characterful island wines and, of course, the famously mineral, high-acid Assyrtiko of Santorini. We’ll also explore grapes such as Xinomavro, Agiorgitiko, Malagousia and Moschofilero, alongside a few more obscure varieties that may be completely new to you.
Greek wine is shaped by dramatic landscapes, high-altitude vineyards, intense sunshine, coastal breezes and an extraordinary range of soils. Add in a winemaking history stretching back thousands of years and a new generation of ambitious producers, and you have one of the most dynamic wine scenes in Europe.
This will be a relaxed tasting designed for everyone from dedicated Greek wine fans to those who have barely ventured beyond a bottle of Assyrtiko.
Come along, discover some new favourites and find out why we keep getting quite so excited about Greek wine. And, for everyone’s sake, we’ll leave the Tsipouro at home.
Our 'Festival' tastings are standing events that are approximately 2-2.5hrs long, so please bear this in mind upon booking. We do have a limited number of high stools available should you need a seat, but please let us know in advance if you require one. We also tend to show quite a few wines, so recommend eating beforehand.
We split you into two or three groups for the tasting, so if you have friends/family who have booked separately, please let us know that you'd like to be put together!
Tickets to our tastings are non-refundable. If you can no longer attend, do get in touch as we often keep a cancellations list for those who missed out on tickets. If that’s not the case, we’ll always try and help re-sell them through social media (no guarantees). Alternatively, feel free to pass them to friends or family – we only need the name of the person who booked for entry on the night.
