Domaine  Philippe  Colin is a family domaine founded in 2004 by Philippe Colin after splitting from the larger family property in Chassagne‑Montrachet.

The estate farms roughly 13 hectares across key Côte de Beaune villages including Chassagne‑Montrachet, Puligny‑Montrachet, Saint‑Aubin and Santenay, producing both white and red wines that emphasise precision, finesse and terroir expression.

Pinot  Noir and Chardonnay are the principal grapes, with Premier Cru and village level bottlings reflecting the varied limestone and clay soils of the region.

The domaine is known for solid, expressive Pinot Noirs that often represent excellent value among Premier Cru Burgundy wines.

Santenay is the southernmost village of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, lying just south of Chassagne-Montrachet. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold winters. The hillsides are exposed to cooling winds, which help preserve acidity but can also increase the risk of spring frost and slow ripening in cooler years. Summer drought and occasional hailstorms represent additional challenges for growers in the region.

The vineyards rise from gentle slopes to higher elevations and enjoy a variety of soils. Lower slopes are dominated by marl and clay, giving wines of depth and richness, while the mid and upper sections consist of well-drained limestone and limestone scree, which bring elegance and finesse. Santenay also benefits from high levels of active limestone that contribute to the structured, mineral style of its wines.

Pinot Noir is the principal grape variety, producing robust, earthy red wines often characterised by red cherry, raspberry and violet aromas with subtle spice and firm, yet approachable tannins. There is also a small production of Chardonnay, offering fresh, mineral-driven whites with citrus, apple and floral notes.

The appellation includes well-known climats such as Clos de Malte, Les Gravières, Beaurepaire and La Comme. Styles tend to be more rustic and structured compared to the neighbouring villages of the Côte de Beaune, yet the best Santenay wines offer excellent balance, typicity and good ageing potential.

In Champagne, it is a key component of sparkling wines, typically blended with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The wine's diverse geographical range means that you might also find it labelled as Red Burgundy, Pinot Nero, Blauburgunder, or Spätburgunder.

The grape produces wines of delicate colour but remarkable aromatic depth. Typical flavour profiles include red fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, often layered with floral notes, earthy undertones, and hints of spice or forest floor as the wines mature. Styles range from light and silky to more structured and age-worthy, depending on climate and winemaking choices. Pinot Noir’s ability to express terroir with precision makes it a favourite among wine lovers, despite — or perhaps because of — its demanding nature in the vineyard.
