Domaine Bott-Geyl is a highly respected wine estate based in Beblenheim, at the heart of Alsace. The domaine traces its winemaking heritage back to 1795, but its modern identity was shaped under Jean-Christophe Bott, who took over in 1993. Since then, the estate has become renowned for producing wines of precision, purity and individuality.

The domaine farms around 15 hectares of vineyards, including holdings in six Grands Crus such as Schlossberg, Sonnenglanz and Mandelberg, as well as several prized lieux-dits. All vineyards are cultivated organically and biodynamically, with certification achieved in the early 2000s. Jean-Christophe’s philosophy centres on minimal intervention, allowing each terroir to fully express itself. Harvesting is carried out by hand, fermentation relies on natural yeasts, and maturation typically takes place in large, old oak foudres to preserve freshness and complexity.

The grape varieties reflect the traditional palette of Alsace: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc, alongside Pinot Noir. Each wine is crafted with a strong sense of place, whether it is the crystalline minerality of Riesling from granite soils or the rich, spicy depth of Gewurztraminer grown on clay-limestone slopes.

Alsace, located in northeastern France along the German border, is a unique wine region renowned for its aromatic white wines and strong sense of terroir. Sheltered by the Vosges Mountains, Alsace enjoys a semi-continental climate with low rainfall and abundant sunshine—ideal for slow grape ripening and concentrated flavours.

Alsace specialises in white wines, particularly from noble varieties such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat. These grapes produce wines that are typically dry, although late-harvest styles like Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles offer luscious sweetness with remarkable ageing potential. Flavours range from citrus, green apple, and stone fruit in Riesling, to exotic spice, lychee, and rose in Gewurztraminer, and rich, smoky notes in Pinot Gris.

Wines are mostly varietally labelled and bottled in the region’s distinctive tall, flute-shaped bottles.

Gewürztraminer is a distinctive and aromatic white grape variety, best known for its intensely perfumed character and exotic flavour profile. Thought to have originated in the Alto Adige region of northern Italy or possibly Germany, its name means "spiced Traminer," reflecting its aromatic nature and link to the ancient Traminer variety.

Viticulturally, Gewürztraminer is a challenging grape to grow. It buds early and ripens quickly, making it vulnerable to spring frost and overly warm climates. It prefers cool to moderate growing conditions where acidity can be preserved, which balances its naturally high sugar content and potential for richness.

The variety thrives in Alsace, France, where it produces powerful, dry to off-dry wines with high alcohol and intense aromas of lychee, rose petals, tropical fruit, ginger, and spice. It’s also grown in Germany, Austria, northern Italy, New Zealand, the USA (particularly Oregon and California), and cooler parts of Australia and Canada.

Gewürztraminer wines range from dry and aromatic to luscious late-harvest and botrytised styles. They are often full-bodied with low to moderate acidity, making them ideal for pairing with spicy Asian cuisine, rich cheeses, or pâté. Its unmistakable perfume and bold flavours make Gewürztraminer one of the most recognisable and unique white wine varieties in the world.
