Croix Canon was introduced in 2012 (previously known as Clos Canon), and is produced by Château Canon, a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate in Saint‑Émilion that is owned by the Wertheimer family of Chanel fame.

Crafted from an 11‑hectare parcel surrounding the 12th‑century Mazerat Chapel—hence the name "Croix" (Cross)—these vines average around 35 years old and are planted to roughly 70 % Merlot and 30 % Cabernet Franc on limestone slopes facing the Dordogne River.

Vinification follows the same rigorous standards as the grand vin: grapes are harvested and sorted meticulously, fermented in parcel‑specific vats, and aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels (typically 10–30 % new) to retain freshness and aromatic finesse.

The resulting wine is medium to full‑bodied, with ripe dark fruit—black cherry, plum, blackberry—floral lift from mint, violets, and spice, together with subtle earthy and mineral nuances. Silky tannins and balanced acidity give it early drinkability yet decent ageing potential. Cabernet Franc’s style varies with climate and winemaking approach. In cooler regions, it produces medium-bodied wines with high acidity, moderate tannins, and distinctive aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, and violets, often with herbal or leafy notes such as green bell pepper. Warmer climates yield riper, fuller expressions with blackberry, plum, and spice. It is frequently used in Bordeaux-style blends for aromatic lift and finesse, but can also shine as a varietal wine, celebrated for its elegance, freshness, and complex, savoury character.
