Clos Roussely is a family-owned estate in Angé, at the heart of the Touraine wine region in the Loire Valley.

Founded in 1917, the domaine is now run by fourth-generation winemaker Vincent Roussely, who returned to the family vineyards after travelling the world's wine regions.

Today, the estate farms its vineyards organically and biodynamically, with a strong focus on biodiversity, healthy soils and minimal intervention.

The domaine's nine hectares are planted on distinctive clay-limestone, flint and tuffeau soils, with a particular commitment to preserving old vines and lesser-known Loire varieties such as Pineau d'Aunis and Menu Pineau.

The Loire Valley, stretching over 600 miles along France’s longest river, is one of the country’s most diverse and scenic wine regions. Its cool to moderate climate varies from maritime in the west near Nantes to continental further inland, influencing grape ripening and wine styles. The region’s soils range from limestone, clay, and flint to sand and gravel, contributing to the distinctive minerality and freshness of its wines.

The Loire is renowned for its wide range of grape varieties and wine styles. In the west, near Muscadet, Melon de Bourgogne thrives on granite and schist soils, producing light, dry white wines with bracing acidity and saline notes. Further east in Anjou and Saumur, Chenin Blanc dominates, used for dry, off-dry, sparkling, and lusciously sweet wines with flavours of green apple, quince, honey, and lanolin. In Touraine and Vouvray, Chenin Blanc continues, joined by Sauvignon Blanc, which expresses zesty citrus, gooseberry, and flinty characters in regions like Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé.

The Loire also produces elegant reds from Cabernet Franc, especially in Chinon and Saumur-Champigny, with red berry, herbal, and earthy notes. With its fresh, food-friendly wines, the Loire Valley offers exceptional variety, regional expression, and value for wine lovers worldwide.

Pineau d'Aunis is a rare and characterful red grape variety native to France's Loire Valley, where it has been cultivated for centuries.

Once more widely planted, it is now found primarily in the Touraine and Vendômois regions, where old vines produce some of the Loire's most distinctive reds.

Typically light in colour and body, Pineau d'Aunis is prized for its fragrant aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant, alongside its signature peppery character. Notes of white pepper, black pepper, herbs and spice often give the wines an intriguing savoury complexity.

Naturally high in acidity, the variety produces fresh, energetic wines with fine, supple tannins and excellent food-pairing versatility. It can be enjoyed lightly chilled and pairs particularly well with charcuterie, grilled fish, roast poultry, pork and vegetable dishes.
