Established in 1949, 300 cooperative members make up the La Cave Du Jurancon. The vines enjoy a mild maritime climate with protection from the Pyrenees. This influences and encourages the indigenous grape its character and potential. A dry, crisp white wine that is fruity and refreshing.

Founded in 1949 at the foot of the Pyrenees, the winery known as La Cave de Gan¬ Jurançon has become, over time, a distinguished landmark in Béarn. Bringing together 300 wine growers. Cave de Gan ¬Jurançon plays a leading role in the Jurançon and the Béarn appellations in the Southwest of France. They are a cooperative who are committed to and respectful of their local terroir, operating 750 hectares of vineyards, forty-five acres of which are tended to by their own team.

Jurançon is a small yet distinctive wine region in southwest France, nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees near Pau. Benefiting from a mild, oceanic climate with strong influence from the Atlantic, it enjoys abundant sunshine, warm summers, and the dry foehn winds from Spain that aid grape ripening. Autumns are long and sunny, ideal for late harvesting and the development of richly concentrated wines.

The soils are diverse, dominated by sandy-clay and siliceous gravel over weathered rock, offering excellent drainage and imparting finesse and minerality to the wines. Steep, south-facing slopes maximise sunlight exposure and protect vines from excessive rain.

Jurançon is famed for its white wines, crafted exclusively from local grape varieties, chiefly Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng, with smaller plantings of Courbu, Lauzet, and Camaralet. Dry Jurançon Sec is vibrant and aromatic, showing flavours of citrus, tropical fruit, white flowers, and a distinctive saline edge. Sweet Jurançon wines, often made from late-harvested Petit Manseng, are lusciously golden, with intense notes of honey, candied fruit, pineapple, and exotic spices, balanced by bright acidity.

This combination of unique climate, varied soils, and indigenous grapes produces wines of remarkable character, capable of ageing gracefully while retaining their freshness and aromatic complexity.

Gros Manseng is a white grape variety originating from the French southwest, particularly the Jurançon and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh appellations in Gascony. Believed to be an ancient Pyrenean variety, it is part of the Manseng family, closely related to the smaller-berried Petit Manseng. The name “Gros” refers to its larger berries, which generally produce higher yields, making it more commercially viable than its sibling.

Viticulturally, Gros Manseng is a hardy, late-ripening grape that thrives in sunny, well-drained slopes. It has thick skins, offering natural resistance to rot, and retains high acidity even in warm conditions. Its vigour and productivity require careful canopy management to avoid dilution of flavours.

While most widely planted in Gascony, Gros Manseng is increasingly grown in South West France’s IGP Côtes de Gascogne for fresh, aromatic dry whites, often blended with Colombard or Sauvignon Blanc. Small plantings exist in Spain’s Basque Country, California, Australia, and Uruguay, reflecting its adaptability.

Styles range from vibrant, dry expressions with zesty citrus, tropical fruit, and white floral notes to late-harvest sweet wines with honeyed, spiced, and exotic fruit character. In both forms, the grape’s hallmark is its lively acidity and aromatic intensity, making it a versatile and distinctive variety in the global wine scene.
