CasalFarneto is a family owned, independent wine producer. With its 35 hectares of vineyard, CasalFarneto combines technology, tradition and sustainability to produce wines of excellence. Under the shade of "Farneto oaks", from which the Estate gets its name. The vineyards cultivate white and red grapes with a particular focus on the Verdiccho.  The vineyards are between 350-400 meters in altitude and just 15km away from the Adriatic Sea. The vineyard is located on the side of a river valley which is open towards the sea, allowing influence from the ocean breeze to moderate the summer temperatures. The soil is medium dense, tendentiously loose texture, with sand and clay composition.

The Marche wine region, located on Italy’s Adriatic coast, is a picturesque area known for producing distinctive wines that balance freshness and depth. The climate is predominantly Mediterranean, influenced by the sea’s moderating effect and the Apennine Mountains, which bring cooler air and temperature variation. This diurnal range helps preserve acidity and develop complex aromas in the grapes.

Soils in Marche vary widely, from calcareous clay and limestone in inland hills to sandy, alluvial deposits along the coast. These well-drained, mineral-rich soils contribute to the region’s vibrant and structured wines.

Verdicchio is the signature white grape, producing crisp, age-worthy wines with notes of citrus, almond, and subtle herbal tones. Other important white varieties include Pecorino and Passerina, known for their floral, mineral-driven styles. For reds, Montepulciano and Sangiovese dominate, yielding wines with ripe cherry, plum, spice, and earthy undertones.

Wine styles range from fresh, zesty whites like Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi to fuller-bodied, oak-aged reds such as Rosso Conero. Sparkling and sweet passito wines also appear, showcasing the region’s versatility. Overall, Marche wines are characterised by a balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality, often reflecting the coastal breezes and mountain freshness that define this unique terroir.

Verdicchio is one of Italy’s most distinctive and historic white grape varieties, with its origins firmly rooted in the Marche region on the Adriatic coast. Grown here since at least the 14th century, it is most famously associated with the appellations Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica, which showcase different expressions of the grape.

Viticulturally, Verdicchio is a late-ripening variety that thrives in the warm yet breezy continental-Mediterranean climate of the Marche. The region’s limestone- and clay-rich soils suit it well, helping the grape retain its naturally high acidity. However, it is sensitive to poor weather at harvest and can struggle with uneven ripening in cooler years. Careful vineyard management is essential to ensure concentration and avoid dilution from excessive yields, a historic issue that once hampered its reputation.

Today, Verdicchio is grown almost exclusively in central Italy, though small experimental plantings exist elsewhere. Its wines are renowned for their freshness, structure and ability to age. Styles range from crisp, youthful whites with citrus, green apple and almond notes, to richer, more complex examples with honeyed, nutty and mineral qualities that develop beautifully over time. Verdicchio also produces excellent sparkling wines and sweet passito versions.

Characterised by vibrant acidity, subtle florality and a signature bitter almond finish, Verdicchio is both versatile at the table and capable of remarkable elegance and longevity, standing proudly among Italy’s greatest white grapes.
