BLANKBottle Winery Tasting 31st July @ 7pm
A wine tasting dedicated to Pieter Walser's cult Western Cape project
We're delighted to welcome back Fran Addis from Alliance Wines who has been working alongside BLANKBottle for the past five years. She will be taking you through a selection of six to eight wines from Pieter Walser's cult Western Cape project.
A bit about BLANKBottle....
"Clothes maketh not the man; judge my wines on what's in the bottle, not the varietal on the label...." Pieter Walser
The story began in 2004, when a lady came to Pieter to buy some wine. "I don't drink Shiraz", were her exact words. He poured her a glass of wine. She loved it and bought 3 cases. It was a straight Shiraz. That moment became the founding principle of BLANKBottle: remove the variety from the label, remove the preconception, and let the wine speak entirely for itself.
Every Blankbottle release is treated as its own narrative; a finite, site-driven expression sourced from old-vine parcels and forgotten plots across the Cape. Labels are hand-designed by Pieter, and every bottle carries a QR code linking to one of his own short films. Winemaking is low-intervention and intuitive throughout, with spontaneous fermentations and late blending guided as much by Pieter's palate as by data.
We have been proud to stock a small selection of Pieter's vast portfolio over the past few years and are excited to dedicate an entire tasting to his unique approach to winemaking.
We make a seating plan for events that are held in The Wine Library. We have both high and low seating options, some more comfy than others, so please inform us if you have any special requirements. Likewise, do tell us if you wish to be sat with someone who has booked separately, we often just have to guess!
Tickets to our tastings are non-refundable so please double-check your diary prior to booking. If you can no longer attend, do get in touch as we often keep a cancellations list for those who missed out on tickets. Alternatively, feel free to pass them to friends or family – we only need the name of the person who booked for entry on the night.
