Leeuwin Estate consistently produces wines that rank with many of the world’s finest. Under the direction of two generations of the founding family, who work alongside a dedicated team of winemakers to maintain the high levels of quality that are synonymous with the Leeuwin Estate. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal to produce premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate. Enjoying its first commercial vintage in 1979, Leeuwin was thrust into the international spotlight.

"Very slightly smoky, then Douglas fir pine needles, a touch of dark caramelised bacon scrapings. Balsamic richness and depth threads through dark fruit; black plums baked to sticky char, sooty olives, crushed box leaf, caraway. The tannins are so polished they almost seem to have an inner glow. And the fruit, mid palate, also seems to glow ruby-like and fresh and full of life. You couldn't but be seduced by this."

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most well-known grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon makes some of the world's finest red wines, whether on its own or blended with other varieties. Surprisingly, it is a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc from Bordeaux, France.

Cabernet Sauvignon is loved for its high concentration and age worthiness. The intense flavour and high tannin content make it the perfect partner to rich grilled meats, peppery sauces, and dishes with bold flavours.

Old World Cabernet Sauvignons, aka your classic French Bordeaux bottles, tend to have a brooding character, with robust tannins adding structure and blackcurrant fruit shining through. In the New World - California and the southern hemisphere (Chile, Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia) - Cabernets tend to develop a sense of fullness and weight. Rich in blackcurrant, mint and occasionally green bell pepper flavours along with firm tannins.
