Langham Corallian Classic Extra Brut

A big rich Chardonnay focussed Dorset Sparkling with an elegant tartness.

A Chardonnay dominant cuvée which is citrus led, with mineral & saline notes, suited to all occasions, particularly in the spring & summer months.  The Corallian drinks well on its own, though is particularly good with fish dishes. Made with a base vintage 2019 and 24% reserve wine, is a blend of 81% Chardonnay, 11% Pinot Noir, 8% Pinot Meunier.

Pale gold in colour with an intense nose, it has aromas of baked apple, lemon, peach yoghurt and a subtle toastiness. The palate is rich with notes of nectarine, flint and salinity. There is a citrus driven acidity with hints of peaches and cream. This wine is dry and well weighted with a long balanced acidity.

All fruit for this wine was sourced from Langhams single site in rural Dorset. The Crawthorne vineyard consists of 12 hectares planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and is located on a sheltered south facing slope. The long growing season here and the precise viticulture helps Langham get the best out of each and every grape.

Langham Wine Estate

Langham Wine Estate

The first incarnation of the Langham vineyard was originally established by John Langham as a hobby at Bingham’s Melcombe, a Grade I listed manor house at the heart of the estate. In 2009 John’s son, Justin, decided to develop his father’s idea into a commercial venture, and planted 30 acres of vines a few miles down the road at Crawthorne Farm.

With a south-facing aspect, chalk soils and a unique microclimate, Crawthorne Vineyard provides the perfect terroir for ripening the classic Champagne varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. All the grapes are handpicked, and rigorous vineyard selection ensures only the highest quality grapes arrive at the winery.

Langham pride themselves in crafting terroir-driven sparkling wines using grapes only grown in their Dorset vineyard. Taking a low-intervention approach to both grape growing and wine production, they constantly strive to minimise environmental impact and produce honest wines that reflect their terroir.  Without fining or filtration, all Langham wines are vegan friendly.

Pinot Meunier

Pinot Meunier

Pinot Meunier, also known as Meunier or Schwarzriesling, is a black grape variety most noted for being one of the three main varieties used in the production of Champagne (the others being Pinot noir and Chardonnay). Until recently, producers in Champagne generally did not acknowledge Pinot Meunier, preferring to emphasise the use of the other noble varieties, but now Pinot Meunier is gaining recognition for the body and richness it contributes to Champagne.

You'll often find Pinot Meunier in Blanc de Noirs (white of blacks) sparkling wines alongside Pinot Noir.

Pinot Meunier is very, very rarely used to make still wine. It can produce light and fruity red wines with high acidity, but we’re now seeing a number of English producers make still white wines out of this black grape variety.

Celebrating English Wine

Celebrating English Wine

It’s no secret that English Sparkling Wines can stand up to – and often beat – the likes of Champagne. In fact, some of the big Champagne houses are now buying plots of land in the UK for their own vineyards, which is certainly saying something! English still wines are now also gaining a reputation for their high quality – and rightfully so – being full of energy and vibrant acidity.

We’ve spent a lot of time visiting vineyards and winemakers around the country, getting excited about the wines they’re producing. So much so, that our range of English and Welsh wines at Tivoli Wines has grown from a handful of bottles to well over 100.

Just because it’s English, that doesn’t mean we’ll add it to our range. We search for wines that demonstrate quality, uniqueness and value for money.
