Rallo Azienda Agricola Bianco Maggiore Grillo

Zippy, textured Italian white.

Grillo is one of Sicily's calling card grapes, along with Nero d'Avola and Catarratto (not to mention those of Etna), and is one of the main constituents of Marsala, where Cantine Rallo are based. The organic grapes for this dry white are picked a little earlier to keep acidity and freshness high, while the intense Sicilian sunshine and heat ensures delicious ripe citrus and tropical fruits.

Grillo is the youngest of the island's native white grape varieties, so much so that it can be defined as contemporary, in fact, molecular studies on DNA have shown that it is the result of the cross between white Catarratto and Zibibbo that took place in Favara (Ag) in 1874 by the agronomist and ampelographer Baron Antonio Mendola. The scholar's idea was to give life to a new grape variety that would be able to give Marsala, the most popular wine of the time, a greater aromatic component.

Grillo is able to give wines of great organoleptic depth, savoury, fragrant and with a good potential for longevity. With a light and bright straw yellow colour, fruity and citrus aromas that see floral notes of wildflowers and orange blossom together. On the palate it is fresh, well-structured with a pleasant, slightly savoury and mineral finish. With an interesting length.

It is a well-structured wine that lends itself to combining typical dishes of the Sicilian tradition based on fish, even the most succulent ones.
