Cantine Povero Capitano del Palio Dolcetto
A classic example of Dolcetto, Italy’s "little sweet one".
Cantine Povero is a family-owned wine producer located in the heart of the Piedmont region of Italy. Established in the early 20th century, the winery has a long-standing tradition of crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of the area. They remain committed to quality over quantity, ensuring that each bottle represents the heritage and dedication of the family to the art of winemaking.
Povero’s Capitano del Palio Dolcetto comes from the Monferrato DOC, which is perhaps not as internationally renowned as some neighbouring areas, but it is worth knowing, especially in terms of value. Officially included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2014, it’s a thriving sub-region of Piedmont and home to some truly delicious wines.
Dolcetto wines typically exhibit dark fruit flavours such as blackberry and plum, often accompanied by hints of almond and a subtle spiciness. This has a more of a fresh streak running through, with juicy cherries, violets and subtle earthiness.
If you’re unfamiliar with the style, Dolcetto tends to be lower in acidity with super soft tannins, making it an approachable style that is easy to drink. Pick this one for your next pizza/pasta night.
