Mandrarossa Frappato

Juiciness epitomised, Sicilian Frappato.

The Mandrarossa range comes from a fairly large co-operative in the south west of Sicily, but is marked out by the involvement of consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini and soil expert Pedro Parra. The coastal vineyards make for wines that are inevitably fresher than those from further inland, a trait that suits Frappato perfectly. The variety often produces strong red berry flavours, of red grapes even but this has a fresh mineral streak that is only seen occasionally.

Frappato

Frappato

Frappato is an Italian grape variety known for producing light bodied reds. Planted primarily in Sicily, it’s often used in big blends alongside Nero d’Avola or Nerello Mascalese, however now Frappato is beginning to make more of an appearance as a single varietal superstar.

Fresh and juicy, you’ll find aromas and flavours of red berries (strawberry, cranberry) and roses, with subtle spicy nuances.

Typically medium in acidity, light in colour, and low in tannins, the youthful style of Frappato makes it an extremely versatile wine. It’s a fish-friendly red (ideal with tuna or swordfish), a great partner to pizza or pasta, and you can serve it chilled during the summer months.
