The Tempest Bacchus
Small batch British Bacchus.
This wine is 100% Bacchus has all those familiar notes – apples, pears, elderflower – given oomph with hedgerow and honeysuckle aromas. Zingy acidity meets zesty flavours on the palate, which makes for a balanced finish.
Nestled at the top of the Welcombe Hills overlooking the picturesque Stratford-Upon-Avon, Welcombe Hills Vineyard has been producing award winning wine now for over 18 years, on land that was once farmed by the Shakespeare family. As such, all their wines have names associated with his works. There are just 2 ½ acres of vines, with 9 different grape varieties grown, so everything is made in small quantities here.
Facing south and relatively frost-free with a terroir of clay with good drainage down to the river Avon, this is probably as ideal a microclimate for producing English wine as can be found in the English Midlands: a fact supported by the success for many years of Snitterfield Fruit Farm next door and the orchards of the nearby Vale of Evesham, where fruit grows well, vines grow well. Now being run by husband and wife team Nichola and Jonathan Kelsey the tradition of growing amazing grapes to produce fantastic English wine will carry on.
