Seifried Estate Gruner Veltliner
New Zealand's other, other white grape.
Since the 1990s, Sauvignon Blanc has reigned supreme in New Zealand. In that time, a number of winemakers have experimented with other varieties just in case the bubble burst (it still might) and given Gruner Veltliner's typical grassy, peppery characteristics, it made sense to give it a go. Here we have Seifried's Estate Gruner, showing all of the native Austrian grape's potential in New Zealand. There's a lovely lime sherbert vibe to the wine, with some soft floral and ripe melon notes on the nose. Bored of Sauvignon? We'd give this a try.
