Othello Pinot Noir Pinot Precoce

A light English red from Stratford-Upon-Avon.

New owners and a brand refresh, Welcombe Hills Vineyard is now being run by husband and wife team Nichola and Jonathan Kelsey. Originally planted as a ‘hobby vineyard’ 20 years ago, there’s quite the range of grapes grown on the 2 ½ acre site. The land was also formerly farmed by the Shakespeare family, which explains the names given to their wines.
Othello is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Précoce, an early ripening mutation of Pinot Noir that suits our cool climate in the UK. It had 10 days skin contact before fermenting in steel tanks, then it was barrel aged for 6 months in French oak.
It’s a light red with aromas of cherry, vanilla and clove, then it’s summer pudding with a twist of black pepper on the palate. Just lovely.
