Summary of Tour

Discover the delights of Middle Eastern/Turkish/Lebanese cuisine with this exciting hands-on cookery class at Harts Barn in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. The Harts chefs will teach you all the skills and techniques needed to create a vibrant mezze feast, whilst Vine & Orchard will provide you with a tasting of wines from the associated regions. 

All our cookery experiences kick off with a little glass of something sparkling on arrival. Don your aprons and learn about the different styles and influences across the Middle East and Levant, before getting stuck into some cooking yourselves.

Through demonstration and practical teaching, you’ll prepare a variety of dishes full of warming spices and fresh herbs. By the end of the class, you will have a delicious mezze to enjoy – with some more well-deserved wine!

To complement your Middle Eastern feast, we will give you an educated tasting of 6 wines that we feel are the best fit for the flavours. Wine has an ancient and rich history throughout the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean countries, and the food from these regions pair very well with the wines. Whites with unusual grape varieties, deep, smoky reds, and perhaps even an amber qvevri wine, we hope you’ll discover a new favourite!

Dishes may vary according to what’s in season, but a sample menu is as follows:

  • Za’atar flatbreads
  • Baked Feta
  • Lamb or lentil koftas with tahini sauce
  • Butternut squash and date hummus
  • Tabbouleh

You’ll be given recipe packs and information on all the wines to take home. Impress your friends and family with your new culinary skills and wine knowledge!

This experience includes:

  • Transportation to and from Harts Barn
  • A WSET-qualified guide throughout the day
  • The Middle Eastern Fusion cookery class where an apron, all ingredients, tea/coffee and recipe packs will be provided
  • Your own workstation unless in a large group (where you’ll be paired up)
  • Wine on arrival and a private wine tasting of six wines with a WSET-qualified educator
  • 10% discount on wines purchased at Tivoli Wines

Departure from Cheltenham will be at 1:00pm, returning at 7:00pm. If you’d like a different pick-up/drop-off location, timings may be different. Get in touch before booking.  

For individual bookings and small groups (up to 7 guests) the price is £110 per person. We offer a group discount for bookings of 10 or more, bringing it down to £99 per person.

  • Wine and cookery experiences are suitable for all skill levels. Whether you’re a novice in the kitchen or a pro looking to expand your repertoire, you’ll gain knowledge as well as having fun!
  • These experiences are sociable events, and can be attended as an individual, a couple, or in a group of family and friends.
  • If you have any dietary requirements, allergies or intolerances, please let us know upon booking and we’ll make sure your needs are catered for.
  • This is a hands-on cookery class, so be prepared to roll up your sleeves and don’t arrive dressed in your finest clothes.
  • We advise that participants should be physically fit enough to be able to get on and off the minibus unaided and be comfortable standing for at least 45 minutes. We regret that we do not have wheelchair accessibility on our vehicle.

Harts Barn already provide a wide range of cookery and baking classes, and we’re excited to reveal that we’ve teamed up with them to host a series of exciting Vine & Orchard food and wine experiences. Not only will you gain some new skills and knowledge in the kitchen, but you’ll learn about wine, discover the best wine pairings, and enjoy being able to tuck into the fruits of your labour with a selection of wines that match the theme of the class.

With every Vine & Orchard experience, you’ll receive a wine tasting of six to eight wines that is tailored to the event you’ve booked. Learn how to taste wine and understand the basics behind food pairing with your WSET-qualified educator.

There’s more to it than just red wine with red meats and white wine with fish and chicken, though that’s a good start.

Perhaps it’s English Sparkling Wine with your Afternoon Tea; a citrusy white with seafood; a dry rosé with cheese; a perfumed red with lamb; a heavy red with steak; an off-dry wine with something spicy.
