Lafouge Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Boutonniers
Beautiful white Burgundy from a small village that’s recently been getting a lot more recognition.
In a side valley off the Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses has a slightly cooler climate than some of its more famous neighbours. Rising temperatures has changed this somewhat, and Auxey is now thought to be the ‘new’ Saint-Aubin.
Lafouge are now in the 6th generation of winemaking. They farm organically, though without certification, harvest all by hand, and all wines are aged in oak barrels, with the premier crus benefitting from up to 50% new oak.
Boutonniers has a charming purity, succulent acidity and a lengthy mineral finish. A wine that could rival bigger named Burgundies, but for a fraction of the price.
