Freedom Of The Press Bacchus

Herbal, nutty Bacchus from semi-urban winery in Oxfordshire.

Freedom Of The Press is the wine label of winemaker Gavin Carver, whose winery is nestled into the Oxfordshire countryside just outside Witney. Technically, this is an urban winery; Gavin doesn't farm his own vines, instead buying fruit from growers in Essex, which is now one of the hottest (literally and figuratively) parts of the country for grape growing. A very exciting first wine with a delicious balance of herbal tones, a little nuttiness and elegant green apple.

Freedom of the press winery

Freedom of the press winery

Freedom of the Press is an urban winery on a hill in the Cotswolds and is owned and run by Gavin Carver. Although a very small winery they so have a range of vessels used in their fermentation including steel tanks, earthenware jars, a concrete egg and old French oak barrels.

All the grapes are grown at vineyards in Essex, this region has the ideal microclimate to ripen the grapes and retain the beautiful fresh fruit flavours. Gavin then works his magic to turn these humble grapes into amazing wines including Chardonnay, Bacchus and Pinot Gris.
