Summary of Tour
Vine & Orchard’s signature experience begins with one of the most celebrated wine producers in the region, Woodchester Valley Vineyard.
You’ll be given a glass of sparkling wine on arrival, before being taken on a 1.5-hour to 2-hour tour of their picturesque vineyards and winery. Here, they will explain the field-to-bottle production process of English sparkling wine. Listen to the tales of those who work amongst the vines, before heading back to the Tasting Room to sample their award-winning range of four sparkling wines and one still wine.
We will then whisk you away into the heart of the Cotswolds, to one of the area’s most luxurious boutique hotels within the quaint village of Painswick. Here you’ll be provided with a sweet and savoury Afternoon Tea of sandwiches, scotch eggs, pork pies, scones and cake, all made by their in-house team of chefs. If the weather permits, you can relax on their terrace, overlooking the stunning Cotswolds countryside, or head indoors to one of their intimate lounge areas.
To conclude our day, we’ll get into the finer details of the English wine movement. One of our very own WSET-qualified guides will perform a private wine tasting of six to eight red, white and rose wines, focusing on the history, challenges and opportunities of English and Welsh wine. We will introduce you to some of the lesser-known grape varietals, smaller producers with very promising futures and recognisable wines which have won global awards.

We leave Cheltenham at 10am, heading straight to Woodchester Valley Vineyard for a tour and tasting.
Following this, we travel to The Painswick for a sweet and savoury Afternoon Tea. Vegetarian and vegan options are available on request, please contact us upon booking. Afternoon Tea comes with your tea of choice, and you are welcome to purchase other drinks to accompany your sandwiches and scones on the day.
Retiring to a private room within the hotel, Vine & Orchard will conduct an English wine tasting of 6-8 wines before returning to Cheltenham at 5:00pm (approx).

- We advise that participants should be physically fit enough to be able to get on and off the minibus unaided and be comfortable walking/standing for at least 45 minutes. Where possible we’ll be seated for tastings.

- We can guarantee the quality of the wines but unfortunately not the English weather! As we will spend some of the day outdoors, please review the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Appropriate footwear is essential.

Woodchester Valley Vineyard
Established in 2007, the picturesque Woodchester Valley Vineyard began with a single acre planted in Amberley, Stroud. Fast-forward fifteen years and they now have three vineyard sites, spread over 56 hectares of beautiful Cotswolds countryside, producing over 25,000 bottles each year, in a variety of styles including Bacchus, Seyval Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and the classic grapes of Champagne – Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
Celebrating English Wine
It’s no secret that English Sparkling Wines can stand up to – and often beat – the likes of Champagne. In fact, some of the big Champagne houses are now buying plots of land in the UK for their own vineyards, which is certainly saying something! English still wines are now also gaining a reputation for their high quality – and rightfully so – being full of energy and vibrant acidity.
We’ve spent a lot of time visiting vineyards and winemakers around the country, getting excited about the wines they’re producing. So much so, that our range of English and Welsh wines at Tivoli Wines has grown from a handful of bottles to well over 100, not to mention launching Vine & Orchard Adventures, our sister wine tours brand.
Just because it’s English, that doesn’t mean we’ll add it to our range. We search for wines that demonstrate quality, uniqueness and value for money.
