Corofin Meltwater Sauvignon Blanc
Single vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon that’s a little different to its usual counterparts.
Since 2012, Mike and Anna Paterson have been making their own wines under the brand Corofin. Their Meltwater wines were initially made as an exclusive for their UK importer, though now they’re staples.
Not owning their own vineyards, the couple source grapes from the region’s top sustainable growers, choosing those that ‘act as a beacon of Marlborough individuality’, rather than those that offer typicity. The grapes for this wine were organically farmed in the southern foothills of the Wairau Valley – not often the case for Marlborough Sav – and the cooler climate results in a less tropical, more tangy style.
Fermentation takes place using naturally occurring yeasts, and the wine spends over six months on lees. Again, not your usual NZ Sauvignon. It’s crisp and pure, with apple, lemon, mandarin, and aromatic basil notes.
