Borovitza Winery Cuvée Bella Rada
Deeply impressive, refined Bulgarian white.
A very exciting find amongst some great Bulgarian wines we've taken on in 2020, this is a remarkably elegant white, blending Rkatsiteli, the variety better known in amphora aged whites of Georgia, with Burgundy's Aligote and Chardonnay. This has less of the winemaking markers of Georgian Rkatsiteli, and far more in common with the best examples of Burgundian oak-aged Aligoté from winemakers like Aubert de Villaine. The vines are well past 50 years old, surviving barely imaginable turmoil to end up in the hands of microbiologist turned winemaker Ogi Tsvetanov who has sadly passed away, leaving the estate to Adriana Srebrinova, who is clearly doing great work to capture this underappreciated corner of the wine world.
