Bizios Estate Nemea Single Vineyard Agiorgitiko

Mature Greek red from the Peloponnese.

The Bizios Estate sits at a lofty 850m above sea level in the Nemea area of Greece's Peloponnese peninsula. While being this far south does make it almost too hot to grow wine grapes, the altitude and proximity to the sea keep things surprisingly fresh, albeit that this wine does hit 14%. Made from the native Agiorgitiko grape, and aged for 12 months in French and American oak, this is full-bodied, flecked with notes of smoke, toast and spice, with a lovely jammy strawberry core. This has also been held back, so shows a lot of value for a wine with bottle-age-maturity.
